Risk management is a key issue for all organisations. It is a growing discipline closely linked to governance and compliance requirements in South Africa, as highlighted in King III and entrenched in various legislative and regulatory prescripts.

There is currently no formalised national qualification specifically designed for Payroll Managers. Historically, payroll employees have been trained through a combination of unit standards, internal workplace training, software vendor workshops, or bookkeeping-related programmes.
